Fairmont Wins Award for Recycling and Composting Program

Fairmont is the first and only school in the district to implement a compost collection program. Students and staff have participated in a pilot program called Waste Matters hosted by The Watershed Project for the last three years. Students are learning about the negative effects of putting food scraps in the landfill. Students understand how to sort their lunch garbage into compost bins, recycling bins, and trash. For these efforts, Fairmont receive 4 awards from the Sustainable Contra Costa 2015 Award Program including:

  • Certificate of Special Congressional REcognition 2015 Green Building Award
  • Certificate of Recognition from Supervisor John Gioia
  • Certificate of Recognition from the California Assembly
  • Sustainable Contra Costa for Leadership in Sustainability Award Winner
