Community Meeting to Discuss Overcrowding in El Cerrito Schools, Mon Aug 28 at 6PM at Korematsu

Superintendent Matthew Duffy is hosting a community meeting this coming Monday, August 29, at 6PM, in the Korematsu Middle School Multipurpose Room to discuss the over-enrollment issues currently affecting El Cerrito schools. The impacts have been especially felt in kindergarten and in 7th grade.

We encourage Fairmont parents and community members to attend this meeting. If you have a Fairmont t-shirt or sweatshirt, please wear it! We want a strong presence since Fairmont has historically been one of the most impacted schools.

Fairmont T-Shirt Sales

Fairmont PTA will be selling Fairmont t-shirts to continue to spread our school spirit. T-Shirts are $12.00 for adult and child sizes. There will be a table at the Ice Cream Social on August 30th and on Back To School Night on September 8th. We will also have a limited amount of canvas tote bags for sale for $13.00. They are great for grocery shopping around town or for bringing home library books. Hoodie sweatshirts, long sleeved shirts, and larger adult sized shirts will also be available to order. Sweat shirts are $25.00 and long sleeved shirts are $20.00. An order form will be sent home soon in your child's Friday folder. Order forms and the correct amount of money will be due to the office September 12th. Late orders or orders with the incorrect payment will not be accepted. If you have any questions contact Anita Miller at anitabmiller@yahoo.com. Thanks for your support and for spreading fabulous Fairmont pride.

Standardized Test Results Available for 2016

The results of the CAASPP Smarter Balanced Assessment, the annual standardized tests our students take in the spring, are now available. Fairmont had gains, with more students are exceeding standards. The online format allows you to view various factors and make comparisons on your own. Thank You!!

The beginning of the year is so busy, with so many people helping, that it's hard to be sure that we recognize everyone's efforts. So with apologizes to those we've left out:

Thanks to Stacey Steele, Tim Warner, Jamie Boreen, Deb Marshall, Lynn Berhardt, and Ken an Amy Miles for helping with summer kindergarten play dates and the kindergarten orientation!

Thank you to Sherrod Blankner for organizing the First Day Welcome Coffee, and to Jenny K and Kevin O'Neal for the coffee donated from Well Grounded. Thank, too, to the many folks who brought treats to share!

Thank you to Deb Marshall, Fumiyo Tomita, all the teachers, and others who have been helping in the mornings with traffic flow and student safety!

Thanks to Jane Wakayama, our new room parent coordinator. She will be working with parents and teachers to help ensure room parents in all rooms and strengthen support for room parents!

Finally, thanks to everyone who attended our first PTA meeting of the year. We're off to a great start, and couldn't do it without such a dedicated and talented group of volunteers!
