Walk-a-thon - Register Today!
Fairmont is off to a quick start with what we hope will be our largest Fundraiser of the year! Our Walk-A-Thon is coming up soon — Friday, October 7th. Our students will be walking around the field for about 30 minutes. Pledge donations are needed. Ask family and friends for donations by registering your child at http://pledgestar.com/fairmont. It is simple and easy, just follow the registration steps. It takes just minutes to complete and send the pledge form out to families and friends. We are raising money to support the K-3 music programs, science for 4-6, the 5th grade overnight trip to Point Bonita, materials for classes, and teachers. Prizes are available for top fundraisers and participants.
We are also looking for volunteers the day of the Walk-A-Thon. If you are able to come for an hour or longer that would be great. Contact Jenny Komaromi at email@example.com or Anita Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org. Look for future opportunities to sign up on Volunteer spot as well. Thank you for your support and for supporting Fairmont Elementary.
For more details about this fundraiser, please visit out 2016 Walk-a-Thon page.

Turn in BoxTops This Week
Twice a year, we submit collected BoxTops for reimbursement and it's that time again. Please turn your collected BoxTops to the school office this week.
If you haven't been collecting BoxTops, please start doing so. Each BoxTops coupon is worth $0.10. That might not seem like a lot, but if every Fairmont family collected 20 BoxTops a year, this would raise over $600 for the school. And it's easy to collect many more. It's likely that everyone could clip 50 or more labels from the brands you probably already buy, and getting us to our $1000 goal.
Participating is easy. Just clip the BoxTops coupons and drop them off in the school office. There is a jar labeled "BoxTops" on the counter. Or you can bring them to a PTA meeting.
For more information, visit our fundraising page and look for the BoxTops section.
Help Raise $1000 for Fairmont on Dec 4
We have a chance to raise $1000 for Fairmont in just a few hours. Come help run a booth at Golden Gate Fields on December 4. There are openings in both the AM and the PM shifts. This event is a fun and easy way to help earn $1000+ for Fairmont's programs.
If you can help, please visit our sign up form at http://signup.com/go/Jw2tA3. Questions? Contact Shane Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your help!
Upcoming Art Contest "Relections"
Each year the national PTA hosts a contest that encourages students to use their creativity. This program, called Relections, invites kids to create visual, musical, and literary expressions of a theme. This year's theme is "What is Your Story?"
This will be the first time in many years that Fairmont PTA has organized something around the Reflections program. So we're still figuring out what we want to do.
But you can help get your kids thinking about creating something today. We must send our submissions to our local PTA council at the end of October, so we'll likely ask that students complete their entries by October 16. More information will be coming soon. In the meantime, if you want to help judge entries or otherwise be involved in the program, please contact Arthur Norcome at email@example.com.

Reminder: 5th and 6th Grade Band at Korematsu
Good news for 5th and 6th grade musicians from Fairmont, Kensington, Madera, Harding, Washington, Mira Vista and Riverside Elementary Schools! Tiffany Carrico, band director at Korematsu Middle School, will be holding Wednesday night band classes once again this year. This class provides the unique chance for musicians from different elementary schools to work together on a regular basis. It has been wonderfully successful the last couple of years and is run free of charge.
The class will start on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and will run weekly from 6-7 pm in the Korematsu band room (D109). The band will have at least a couple of performances during the year (details to be announced later).
Ms. Carrico generally does not have instruments to loan out since the Korematsu program has expanded greatly in recent years. She hopes that all kids will be signing up for in-school band class (if they don’t own an instrument) so they can check out a district instrument that way.
Please send Ms. Carrico a quick email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or give her a quick call (510-717-0718) if you would like your child to participate.
Questions? Contact Jen Treuting at email@example.com.
