Kindergarten Playdates and Potluck
This Saturday is our first playdate for our incoming kindergarten families: July 29th, 10am-Noon. There will also be playdates on August 5th and 10th from 10am-noon and a potluck on August 19th from 11:30am-1:30pm. We look forward to meeting all of the new families. Come make some new friends and be among the first to see all of the changes that have happened to our buildings over the summer!
Summer Math Loss
There is quite a focus on reading loss over the summer but did you know that your children may also suffer math loss? On average 2 1/2 months worth of learning are lost over the summer. But you can help your child with a few activities. Focus on math-based activities that you can do with your child everyday such as cooking or scoring a baseball game. Read math stories together or play games such as Yahtzee, Monopoly or Rummikub. Try to find small ways to practice math at home, in the car, or when you go shopping. For more information please check out this article: http://www.gse.harvard.edu/news/uk/16/06/summer-math-loss
Discover & Go
Have your kids spent one too many hours playing minecraft and vegetating in front of the TV? Check out Discover & Go for free and discounted tickets to sites all around the bay area. You can get tickets to California Academy of Sciences, Lawrence Hall of Science, Playland Not-at-the-Beach, Oakland Museum of California and many other venues. The only thing you need to access tickets is a public library card to any area library. http://discoverandgo.org/
Make your kid's screen time a little more educational and get them interested in computer science. Code.org offers free online courses for children ages 4-18 to help them learn coding. The goal of this organization is to expand access of computer science to female and minority students.
