Turn in PTA Membership Forms and Volunteer Surveys!
Please remember to complete your ONLINE PTA Membership form and volunteer survey this weekend. For links to both, as well as other resources for getting started this year, visit our Start of Year Checklist.
If you prefer the paper forms, please submit your membership and volunteer forms to your child's teacher or the school office by Tuesday, September 5.
Back to School Night
Thursday, September 7th is Back to School Night and will be a minimal day with classes dismissing at 2:05pm.
This year we have an exciting new change to our BTSN program: a food truck! La Estralle Taco Truck will be on site. Grab the family and come buy dinner or bring a picnic dinner. The play yard will be open at 5pm. More details regarding the food truck to come.
Lower grade (K-3) teachers will be introduced at 6 pm. Lower grades will move to their classrooms at 6:15 pm. Upper grade teacher introductions will be at 6:30 pm.
Come and meet your child's teacher, meet the principal, and other faculty, check out Fairmont’s facilities, and learn a little more about what Fairmont has to offer. Having a healthy relationship with your child’s teacher goes a long way. If you get to know them, they’ll feel more comfortable emailing or calling you if your child is struggling in class. Attending back-to-school night, shows your child and your child’s teacher that you truly care about your child’s education. Have you ever wondered what your Fairmont school library is like? Now’s your chance to find out! Attend back-to-school night and you’ll get to see EVERYTHING, including the library, multi-purpose room, front office, and your child’s classroom. This event is for parents.
Pizza Roma Fundraiser
Friday, September 7th is Pizza Roma night! This is our first Pizza Roma night of the school year and is always well attended and a lot of fun. Come hang out and chat with all your friends and make some new friends too.
Band Forms Due
Forms to join the band went out to grades 4,5, & 6. These need to be return September 8th.
Volunteer Fingerprinting Party at Harding
We are always looking for volunteers to help with events but usually this requires a volunteer badge. If you don't have one, this is the perfect time to get one. Just complete the online application form and then you can drop by Harding to be fingerprinted on September 9th from 9 am-noon in the MPR. This saves you the trip to WCCUSD central office to be fingerprinted.
FASEP Registration & Corrections
FASEP registration has begun and parents are starting to sign up for classes! If you choose to use the new online registration option, please note that you also need to fill out the Google form which asks for the same information as the paper registration form.
There are some corrections to the paper registration form that was sent home on Friday, August 25th and is currently in the office:
- The scholarship fee for the Chess class should be $60 not $75.
- Yoga and Chess will be held in Rm. 2 (not rm. 1).
- Thanks to Ms. Hamilton, Theater will be held in P2.
Korematsu Band for 5th and 6th Graders
Good news for 5th and 6th grade musicians from Fairmont! Tiffany Carrico, band director at Korematsu Middle School will hold Wednesday evening band classes once again this year. This class provides the unique chance for musicians from different elementary schools to work together on a regular basis and develop their instrumental music skills. It has been wonderfully successful the last few years and, once again, Ms. Carrico is holding the class free of charge. Classes begin on Wednesday, Oct. 4 and will run weekly from 6-7pm in the Korematsu Middle School band room (D109). The band will have a couple of chances to perform during the school year (details to be announced later). Ms. Carrico generally does not have instruments to loan out since the Korematsu program has expanded greatly in recent years. She hopes that all kids will be signing up for in-school band classes (if they don’t own an instrument) so they can check out a district instrument. Please send Ms. Carrico a quick email (firstname.lastname@example.org ) or give her a call (510-717-0718) if you would like your child to participate. Questions? Contact Jen Treuting at email@example.com.
El Cerrito Centinnial Parade
Fairmont will be marching in the Centinnial Parade on September 16th! We are looking for interested families to represent Fairmont. Please contact Jen Komaromi at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are willing to help coordinate or are intersted in participating. Check out all the fun activities the city has planned starting September 14th!
Golden Gate Fields Reminder
We are a little over 2 weeks out from our Golden Gate Fields Fundraiser, September 17th. We still need several people to help, especially for the afternoon shifts. It's just a couple of hours and it’s a lot of fun! We earn $1000 from this one day of volunteering but only if we have at least 10 people signed up for each time slot, otherwise we get only $500. We will serve alcohol, so volunteers must be 18 years old. Sign up:http://signup.com/go/DwjMcCA.
