Events

PTA General Meeting

Join us for our monthly general meeting Thursday, October 19th at 6pm. Childcare will be provided. We will also have a Toolbox training right after we complete our PTA business.

Family Game Night

Mrs. Bernhardt will be hosting our family game night on Friday, October 20th from 6-8 pm in the Fairmont Multipurpose Room. Bring games to play and share. Invite family and friends. This is a really fun, free event for both kids and adults, and a great chance to try out a few games you might want to buy for the holidays.

6500 Stockton (Senior Center) site visit

Fairmont School faculty, staff, and parents are invited to join the rescheduled site visit to 6500 Stockton (the school-owned building currently in use as the City of El Cerrito's senior center) at 4 PM on Friday, Oct. 20th. No need to RSVP, just show up at the entrance at 4 PM. This visit will help all of us understand more about the condition of that building and what type of educational uses it has potential for when the City's lease is up (June 30, 2018). There are no senior activities at that time, so it's a good opportunity to poke around. For more background on this issue, please see our PTA web page with more information.

Thanks to Our Volunteers

Walk-a-thon

From Dawn Miller, our awesome Walk-a-thon coordinator: "The walkathon last Friday was an absolute success.  The students had a blast!  I would like to thank all of the awesome parents who helped out (in no particular order): Aimee, Ceci, Amalia, Shelby, Tere, April, Kabina, Susana, Jackie, Zak, Scott, Rebecca, Kate, Belem, Yuli, Nicole, Demetrio, Bua (Kunchalee), Cameron, Jen and the other parents who cheered the kids around the track.  All of you worked together and made this a lovely experience for the kids.  This kind of event builds a great community for our kids and for our school.  Special thanks to Bua, who brought treats for the adults.  Thank you all so much for your energy, enthusiasm and support for our students.

It's not too late to turn donations in!  Submit them by October 20th so that we can start handing out the prizes.  You can bring them to the office or sign up online at http://pledgestar.com/fairmont.

El Cerrito Arts Day: Celebrating Our History Through Music - October 21, 2-5 PM

This year, to celebrate El Cerrito’s centennial, Arts Day honors the history of our city through its many musical heritages. Beginning with the Chochenyo Ohlone, who developed a civilization here over 1,500 years ago, El Cerrito has been home to people who’ve come here from many other places around the world.

The event's program offers a sampling of this diversity. We hope you will be able to attend and enjoy the songs, dances, and stories of the many people and communities who have lived here, now and in the past: Ohlone Indians, Spanish colonists and Mexican ranchers, the Issei generation of Japanese Americans, and the thousands of war industry workers who came here during World War II.

* Vincent Medina - traditional and contemporary Ohlone songs and stories

* Los Arribeños de San Francisco - songs and dances from California’s Spanish and Mexican eras

*SF Sakura Ren - traditional Japanese dance and music

*The Saddle Cats - World War II era country swing music

*Tia Carroll and Her Awesome Blues Band – 1940s/1950s era rhythm blues music

Free! All ages are welcome. For more information: http://www.el-cerrito.org/751/Arts-Day
