Loop into Code Night - Tuesday, Dec 5 at 6pm
Is your child interested in computers, robots, games, or math? Join us this Tuesday, December 5, at 6PM in room P10 for Fairmont’s Code Night. We have done this event since 2013 as part of the “Week of Code”, a joint project of big technology companies like Facebook and Google to promote programming skills among our youngsters.
No previous programming experience is required and ages 5+ are welcome! Students will complete one of several projects on the https://code.org/learn site. Upper grade students can work with additional online tools. Parents should expect to stay and help their children, especially those under 9. This year’s programming puzzles are a bit more abstract than in previous years, but still easy to understand with guidance. If you are unable to attend, you can participate from home during the Week of Code or after. Also, visit Fairmont’s Code Night Resources page at http://fairmontschool.org/code-night-resources where we include a few links to other sites designed to help kids learn programming.
Questions? Please contact Tim Warner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
PTA Board Meeting
Thursday, December 7, is our PTA Board Meeting at 6:00 pm in the faculty lounge. The staff lounge is the door after the office when you enter by the front gate. All PTA members are welcome to attend, not just board members. Attending these meetings is a good way to learn more about the PTA’s volunteer work and how we support the school. We still have positions open and would love to have some new faces. The board meeting usually runs for about an hour and a half and is usually adults-only.
Pizza Roma Fundraiser
Friday December 8, is Pizza Roma night! Join us for a slice of pie or get your order for carry out. Just remember to mention Fairmont when you pay. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Fairmont.
Thanks to Our Volunteers & Opportunities
Successful Math Night
What a huge success! We had more than 100 people overall, with 95 people completing the math games to be entered in to our raffle for prizes! All thanks is due to Rebecca Goldfarb for writing the grant to the national Mathnasium company which allowed this all to happen. She also helped collect prizes and setup. Thanks to April Parekh for coordinating, Mrs. Bernhardt for managing the check-in table, Dawn Miller for ordering supplies, and to all who helped run the stations: Tim Aaronson, Jamie Dertz, Annika Dukes, Ria Abesamis, Natalie Tse, David Montes, Laura Saponara, Amy deHart, Amalia Cunningham, and Jessica Payne. Thanks to Kelly Gould for the amazing photographs and Jen Komaromi for donating prizes. Also thanks to the impromptu helpers: Chris O'dea, Mike Cunningham, Ben (5th grade parent) and Greg (2nd grade parent), and anyone else who saw that help was needed and pitched in!
If this awesome event inspired you to volunteer on an event committee, please consider helping out with either the Multicultural Potluck or the Auction Gala, our two signature spring events! Contact Jen at email@example.com to get connected to those event committees.
Not Yet a PTA Member? Join Today!
One of the easiest things you can do to support your child’s education is to join the PTA. Although we welcome additional volunteers, your $20 membership fee does not obligate you to volunteer for events, chaperone trips, or anything like that. Still, you can tell your child that you are a PTA member and studies show that parents and guardians simply joining PTA improves how well kids do in school.
So fill out the PTA member form that came home last week and send it back to your child’s classroom. We are running a contest through December 8 — the classroom with the most PTA members by that date will get a pizza party! And we have only a handful of new members in the past week, so it is anyone’s prize to win!
If you have questions, please send them to Tim Warner at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks as always for your support and we look forward to welcoming you (or welcoming you back) to Fairmont’s PTA!
