Last Day of School and Picnic

Good news, the days of last minute searches for shoes and socks are almost at an end. June 7th is the last day of classes. School will be dismissed at NOON and then you have the entire summer to bond with your offspring. School will resume on August 19th. 

If you are free on the 7th after dismissal, please join us a Cerrito Vista and bring a picnic lunch or snack so we can all hang out in the park.


Sixth Grade Promotion

Sixth grade promotion will be June 7, from 10 am - noon in the Mulitpurpose Room. Light refreshments will be offered. Families are asked to donate snack, time, and/or money to help pay for yearbooks. We are also looking for some fifth grade parents to help during the reception to help pass out programs and set up the snack table. Please contact Deb Marshall at d_marshall@comcast.net if you can assist or sign-up online.

 


Summer Reading

Keep your child's reading skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long. Stave off the "summer slide" by offering your student a variety of books to read and allowing them to choose books which interest them. Stop by the Fairmont Book Exchange to pick up something new to read over the summer. Have books you are ready to pass on to another eager student? Please drop them off at the exchange located in the lower grade building (across from room 3).

In addition, check out the summer reading program offered through the El Cerrito Library, "Take Me to Your Reader". The program runs June 4th-August 4th. Win prizes and promote family reading. There is even a suggested adult reading list, so model healthy reading habits for your child by promoting family reading http://ccclib.org/reads/summerreading/.

 


Kindergarten Play dates and Orientation

We will be kicking off the summer with a play date at the beginning of summer to allow people to network early on. Play dates are tentatively scheduled to be on the Fairmont campus but we may move to a park if necessary due to construction or facilities not being available.

Sunday, June 9th, 10 am-noon 

Saturday, July 20th,  10 am-noon

Saturday, August 10th  10 am-noon. 

Friday, August 16th - Orientation starts at 2 pm. Please bring your child with you, it's also good to bring some crayons or somethig to do and snacks for your children as there is a short Greeting and Q&A in the Multi-Purpose Room before going to the classrooms. Your child will have the opportunity to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and make some new friends too.

Saturday, August 17th - Potluck from 11-1 pm. If you have any food restrictions or just don't like potlucks, please feel free to just bring a lunch for you and your children.

Monday, August 19th, first day of school 8:25 am. There will be a welcome back coffee in the MPR so please join us after you have dropped off your child and meet some of the community.

  


Grant writing

We currently have a small group of parents getting together to discuss grant writing opportunities to help support out PTA sponsored activities such as music, art, gardening, and playworks. If anyone is interested in helping out please contact Annika Dukes: annikadukes@gmail.com.

 


New FASEP Coordinator

Anthony Patire will take over as FASEP Coordinator in the new school year. He will be working with Taylor Melton on the new classes and goals for the new session. Our first year with EC Recreation was a success and we would like to thank everyone who took FASEP classes and to the teachers who kindly offered the use of their classrooms. Thank you also to the After School Program, Adriana and the office staff for making it all work!

 


Thank You to Our Volunteers

Thank you to all of our parents, teachers, and students that have helped out with all our events over the past year. We are lucky to have a few community members who have proven a great boon to our school community, a very special thank you to Thad Smith and Tim Aaronson for their many hours and contributions to the school. Also thank you to Jen Komaromi and the entire PTA board for their service and our ladies in the office. We have the best office staff and they have helped too many times to count!

Join the PTA! It's easy and a great way to show your child that you support their education. Membership forms are available in the school office. Join today!
