Playworks needs your support! Playworks was brought to Fairmont 15 years ago by our dedicated PTA and teachers. The PTA was funding the program until two years ago, when the school district began to fund our program. Due to the success at Fairmont, the school district decided to expand Playworks to other schools in the district. There are different tiers of the program; at Fairmont we have been lucky to continue our current model. Our PTA feels strongly that we must continue our current model.
The district has proposed to bring the Playworks model in house and to only have a coach on site once a week. Other schools that have a coach once a week have not been impressed with the program. When the district decided to fund our current Playworks program, we expanded the offerings of the PTA to include teacher stipends, 3rd grade swim, 5th grade overnight at Pt Bonita, and 6th grade theater. If our funding changes, we will need to re-prioritize our needs as a school. Parents, teachers and students all are unified in the desire to keep Playworks at our current model. We are hoping to continue to receive some financial support from the district to keep our current model, but if we were to fund it entirely on our own it would cost close to $40,000.
We need your help. We are looking for someone to help lead the charge in coordinating parents, teachers and students to lobby the district to continue the funding to Fairmont. We have one of the largest student bodies, we house the largest special needs population in the district, and have a small campus size. We need someone to help schedule a presentation at a school board meeting, or coordinate public comment at the January 3rd School Board Meeting. Are you ready to dedicate yourself to the effort? Before you decide you can’t make a difference, let me remind you that we are now looking forward to having the senior center back in educational use this summer and that was mostly from the efforts of a small group of dedicated parents. You can make a difference. We can make a difference, but only if we step up and take action now. If you are ready to help please email us: email@example.com

Click here to see the new class descriptions.
There are two ways to register:
- Print and fill out out a paper application (PDF - English and Spanish), or

Newsletter Editor Needed
Did you help with your high school or college paper or yearbook? Do you just enjoy writing and editing or have some time to help but can't help at school? We are looking for someone to help with the newsletter. If you are interested, please email April at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Auction - Help Needed
We still need lots of people to help plan the auction. We need a coordinator for Merchandise Set up/ check out - we are looking for help with setting up items to bid on as well as running the checkouts at the close of the auction. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is just looking to help with one thing because the auction requires LOTS of volunteers and our chair will be graduating next school year and it is mostly run by upper grade parents. Contact Debbie 510-847-3119, email@example.com.
As 2017 wraps up, please consider a tax-deductible donation to Fairmont PTA. You can donate securely by credit card at shop-fairmont.myschoolcentral.com or by check (payable to Fairmont PTA). For your tax records, our Federal Tax ID is: 94-6171906
Direct donations are the most efficient way to support the many valuable programs that the Fairmont PTA provides, reducing the need for time-consuming fundraisers that require many volunteers. PTA programs improve the school for every student and family, providing great events such as the recent Family Math Night, the upcoming Science Day assembly, Music instruction for the K-3rd graders, the 5th grade overnight trip to Pt. Bonita, providing allocations to teachers for classroom supplies, and ensuring that every child is able to attend field trips. Please support the important work of our school community with a tax-deductible donation.
