Kindergarten Orientation, August 17
For Kindergarteners, there will be an orientation at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 17. This is a chance for you to ask questions of the Principal and of PTA members before school actually begins. You can also join us for a short playdate right after orientation on Friday at around 3 p.m. This is a great chance for the kids to see their new school and get to know other kids coming to Fairmont.
2nd Grade Playdate, August 18
The second grade will be having a play-date on Saturday, August 18th at 1:30 p.m. at the main Fairmont playground. Siblings welcome.
School Grounds and Garden Cleanup, August 19
Help us with some general cleanup Sunday, August 19th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Please bring your tools, gloves, and water to help us do a quick cleanup of the garden and grounds. We need to redo the sheet mulch, add gopher wire to our beds and remove the peach tree. We also need to do a quick trash pickup along the perimeter. Let's make our school look really nice for the first day back!
Start of School, Monday, August 20 - MINIMUM DAY
It's that time again! School opens for business Monday, August 20, at 8:25 a.m. Please note that it is a minimum day, so grades K-6 will be dismissed at 2:05 p.m. (See the daily bell schedule if you're new to Fairmont: http://fairmontschool.org/daily-bell-schedule.)
Only Kindergarten students receive their classroom and teacher assignment in the mail. 1st-6th grade classes are posted near the office. Lists are generally posted by Friday afternoon but you may also simply check on Monday before school starts.
Kindergarten classes room 17 and 18 line up in the Kindergarten Yard. Those kindergarteners in P-1( Lindell/Said), should line up near the portable, opposite the MPR. Kindergarten will be released at 2:05 p.m. every day.
Line up for first grade students is near the poles in the center of the campus. These poles are numbered with room numbers and you should line up in front of the pole that corresponds with your child's room number. Second grade students in Grimm and Marshall's classes will line up in front of the poles. Hamilton's class lines up in front of its corresponding portable. All students grades 1-6 will be released at 2:05 p.m. on minimum days and 2:40 p.m. on regular days. Wednesdays are ALWAYS minimum days.
Parents with children in Kindergarten and 1st grade should accompany their child to line up daily. You are encouraged to walk as traffic is always chaotic the first few days of school.
Please remember that vehicles left unattended in the drop-off zone are subject to being ticketed. This area is only for parents who are dropping off students that do not require assistance getting to class. Drivers should pull up as far as possible in the white zone in order to accommodate parents behind them. Please do not block crosswalks or traffic on Stockton.
Also, as a courtesy, parents who drive should avoid using Eureka to make left turns or to cross San Pablo. Cars waiting to turn may lead to back up and other problems on Kearney. Please use this intersection for right turns only. If you need to cross San Pablo to the Annex or drive toward Albany, please continue south along Kearney for another block and turn on Lincoln or continue to Central for a traffic signal to aid you in turning.
Welcome Back Coffee, August 20
There will be a "Welcome Back" coffee in the multi-purpose room at 8:30 a.m. on the first day of school, August 21st. Come mingle with other parents and enjoy some coffee and goodies. Donations of treats are welcome just bring them with you.
Ice Cream Social Volunteers Needed
We will have our annual FREE Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 28 at 6:15 p.m. We need volunteers for lots of jobs and have created an online signup form. Go to http://signup.com/go/xMScqom then click the job you'd like to help with! More details to come after school begins.
Schoolwide Supply Wish List
In an effort to make sure that our upper grade teachers and students get access to just as many supplies as the lower grades, we have set up a schoolwide supply wish list. All you have to do is signup using the link below and either have the item shipped to the school or drop by the office with your donation before school starts. These items will be distributed to all the teachers on the Friday before the start of school. https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/2367392/false#/invitation.
WCCUSD is introducing a new science curriculum with hands-on experiments called Mystery Science. Some of the Fairmont teachers will be implementing this in the coming year, especially grades 3 - 5. Please consider buying some supplies from this Wish List for the teachers to use in the experiments. You can find the Wish List on Amazon at http://a.co/iBGpgE1. Please note that some of the items might be available cheaper at other stores like Costco or a grocery store, or maybe even laying around your home! If you want to donate something from the list, but would like to purchase it from some place other than Amazon, please email firstname.lastname@example.org so that the item can be removed from the Wish List. Please bring supplies marked "PTA - Science” to the front office or them drop off at Jenny K on Stockton Ave. They will be sorted and stored for the teachers by grade level. Thank you!
Please show your commitment to your child’s school community by joining the PTA! It improves your connection to what is happening in the school, brings opportunities to meet other parents, and gives you a voice in improving our school. You can join the PTA for the 2018-19 school year through our online store (https://shop-fairmont.myschoolcentral.com). While you are there, you can also donate to the PTA to support our many programs for the upcoming year! Thank you!
